Trending… Animal Print

15-tom-fords-fall-2013-ad-campaign

There is something über glamorous about animal print ~ maybe it’s  because its “exotic”,…. soft…. supple, yet bold. And somehow when you wear it – you  feel you should be Sophia Loren laying on Chaise smoking a long cigarette, drinking a dirty martini …
OR
Maybe you don’t feel like this at all…. and this is just MY imaginary story for who I am when I wear it –  But regardless if you are going to attempt this trend, you will need to channel your inner glamazon to pull it off… animal print is not for the light-hearted….

Having said that they are many non-intimadating, very accessible ways to wear it.
Here are my best guidelines to follow:

1. If you are a little bit afraid… just do accessories. Scarf, Shoes, Bag, etc. Wear as a “statement” accessory and it will literally make your outfit..  Wear neutral colors for the rest and keep it simple. i.e. A leopard scarf with blue jeans and a white t-shirt or a snake-skin clutch with a black dress.

2. A bit more daring…? Do one item of clothing – i.e. Pants. Keep your top very simple and cut appropriately for your frame – so you don’t look like you are wearing a costume.

3. If you want to be bold – go for a dress or jacket. Keep accessories to a minimum and try to make everything else in your look subdued ie. Hair neat, no colored or big flashy jewels or shoes.

Trends Fall/Winter 2013

Fashion week has come and gone and before it gets to be time for the next season’s collections to come out – I better get to recapping and sending you into winter with the best trends to sport for the rest of 2013 and early 2014.

Today I will point out the best and brightest trends that were seen on the runways, following that will be how to make it your own, incorporating it into your wardrobe in a very accessible yet “Trendy girl-at-school” kind of way.

Here is the rundown for Fall/Winter Trends pulled directly off the runways….

1. Animal Print.
If you ask me (or my mom – who clearly remembers my bedroom and wardrobe as a pre-teen) Leopard is always in…. But this season’s runway also agreed   (and that many other animal prints are very cool as well).

2. Bomber Jacket
Bring on the letter jackets and reminiscing of GREASE… Bomber Jackets are what the cool kids are wearing.

3. Purple.
Again… I feel like this season is so reminiscent of my childhood! I love purple. Purple is the new black this season. Don’t roll your eyes.. it basically looks good on everyone. Rock it.

4. Over the Knee Boots.
Who knew Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman would have started a movement for the mainstream. Warm on cold days and Sexy as hell… Tall boots are all over.

5. The Sweatshirt
Yes that is right the sweatshirt… don’t get too excited .. sweat pants are NOT a trend. But a sweatshirt done right – can be a casual, slightly eclectic look.

NYC Fashion Week SS 2014

anna quote 2

ny-fashion-week-2012_784x0-490x311

In the words of Carrie Bradshaw ” Every year the women of New York leave their past behind and look forward to the future… this is known as Fashion Week.”

Its that time of year again… (tragic to come to the realization that summer is over)  thank-goodness we have Fashion Week to distract ourselves from reality!

It’s not over yet, but with the the style overwhelm that goes on at Fashion Week – I thought we might as well start going over the highlights thus far….

Trends seem to be carrying over from the past seasons….
We are continuing to see:

  • Leather
  • Crops
  • Sportwear
  • Florals
  • Maxis
  • One Pieces

All I adore, so I am in good sprits! Here is a brief rundown of some of the looks thus far.

El Paseo Fashion Week 2013

fwep

El Paseo Fashion Week brought on madness and excitement once again this year to Palm Desert. It was 9 Days of Fashion, Beauty, Cocktails, and Buzz.

Every year Palm Springs Life and Integrated Wealth Management strive to make the current year better than the last, which they succeeded at this year..

Highlights for me included – The Saks Fifth Avenue fashion show opening night (which never disappoints), Style and Beauty Bash (which my salon R&B Studios participated in) and last but certainly not least The El Paseo Runway show in which the pre-event “Wine, Chocolate, and Shoes” party was hosted by The Girlfriend Factor.

A great thank-you to everyone that attended and supported all events! Looking forward to next year!

2013 Glitz and Glamour

2013

Darlings… I do apologize for my absence in posting, it seems like life has distracted me. Although there is so much to discuss I can’t bare to relive the past as we are on the first day of a new year. Therefore, I would like to pay homage to a fabulous 2012, the holiday season, and NYE last night…. while keeping on theme with what should be the best year yet.. 2013!

Glitz and Glamour

We all have plenty of Glitz and Glamour during the holiday season and certainly for NYE, but why does it have to stop? To prevent you from having the January Blues I want you to carry on these “Glitzy and Glamorous” trends into the new year. Here is to being fabulous in January (without looking like you haven’t changed out of your NYE outfit).

The Sequin Blazer

I loovvveee Sequins. Sequins, glitter, sequins, and more sequins – I love it all! Sequins have to be done right though. They are tasteful in one statement piece otherwise you may end up looking like you stepped off the original set of Dynasty. So although you may be super sad that you have to hang up your sequin NYE dress until you go to Vegas next… this will surely hold you over.  Pair with Basic Neutral separates and you surely will be good to go!

Oversized Watch

I haven’t worn a watch in probably 10 years. I was pretty consistent up until that point… It progressed from Roxy watch, to new Roxy watch, another new Roxy Watch, to a NIKE watch (… yes a Nike watch…)….. It was clear at this point I need to reassess my personal style. In doing so, I took a break for watch-wearing up until my most recent birthday when I received a Micheal Kors watch that I am now OBSESSED with. I wear it everyday and although yes it does tell time… I think we all know that since our phones are attached to us that we really are wearing watches as a fashion statement. In my opinion the flashy and bigger the better! Also, layer, layer, and layer with bracelets of all sorts to give your arm more of a cuff feel.

Leather Pants

Leather Pants have been in for a while now and personally I think they should stay in. They are on point with the Rock n’Roll trends that keep reappearing on the catwalks every three seasons and I think they are a great, sexy, yet classy way to dress up any outfit. They are slimming and basically go with anything! If I were you I would wrap my head around in investing in a pair.

The Statement Necklace

The Statement Necklace is great in the fact that you can be wearing a white t-shirt and jeans and if you throw it on, you now have an outfit. The Chunky, Bigger, more Sparkly the better. Again, your outfit can be pretty simple… use the necklace as the focal point.

Los Angeles Fashion Council Presentations SS 2013

I was lucky enough to attend Los Angeles’s Fashion Coucil SS2013 Presentations over the past two days.  The Showcase took place at historic Carondelet House near downtown Los Angeles. It  featured runway shows, presentaions and on site pop-up shops from local designers for both apparel and accessories.

Here are my highlights…

Check the facebook page for outfits of Day #1 and #2.

A Big thanks to Kelsi Smith and The Los Angeles Fashion Council for a great event!

CUSP

Image

Cusp – (defined) is a point formed between two intersecting arcs. Neiman Marcus must have taken this definition literally when conceptualizing this off-shoot boutique of their department store. A contemporary concept merging all the best known designers that you would expect from the luxury retailer, with up-and-coming designers in a hip, stylish environment.

Although you may be familiar with CUSP’s freestanding boutiques, such as the one in Century City mall, Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills recently launched its own in-store version.

Image

Carrying all of my favorite contemporary brands such as Alice + Olivia, Elizabeth & James, and Parker, CUSP is designed to be the one-stop shop for the fashion-forward woman. One has an array of options be it on-line with http://www.CUSP.com, visiting one of the 42 Neiman Marcus department stores, or one of the six free-standing CUSP boutiques…. Shopping just became that much easier!

Neon Brights

After being pretty resistant to this trend since it first it showed up on S/S 2012 runways.. I have gone through the 4 stages of S.A.R.A
S.A.R.A.

S – Shock – because I remember when Neon was all the rage…in 2nd grade and in my mind I am not old enough to see a trend for the 2nd time in my life.

A – Anger – Being angry at the fact that in all REALITY I AM actually that old…

R – Resistance – Thinking Neon is tacky..

A – Acceptance. – After having time to process the news that neon is indeed a trend for this season, coming to terms with my age, and after gathering evidence I have concluded that if neon is executed right… it can look.. well .. pretty great!

My advice in keeping it on the side of super edgy and fashionable and NOT venturing on the side of a GEM reincarnation…start small (accessories) and wear with neutrals. A Neon shoe looks dynamite with a black dress, bold jeans look great with a white t-shirt. If you feel adventurous, pair with other neons… (I would only recommend this if you are at an advanced level).

Regardless have fun with it!

El Paseo Fashion Week

Image

Image

In a long over due post, here is my El Paseo fashion week roundup.

Palm Springs Life and Integrated Wealth Management put a fantastic week of shows, events, trunk shows, and charity events to Celebrate Fashion week in Palm Springs March 16-23, 2012.

I was lucky enough to attend many of the Events. The Bachelor Auction was a great kick-off to the weekend on the Saturday night. More fun than fashion, eligible Bachelors were auctioned off in-junction with their Bachelor “packages” that ranged from advertising to spa packages, and small getaways. Needless to say, everyone that attended was very entertained.

Image

Sunday was deemed “Style and Beauty” Bash day. Salons took up space in the main tent to promote their businesses and services, while patrons roamed around to take a look at the offerings. All salons offered up services for $30, with all proceeds going to a charity of their choice.

Saks Fifth Avenue put on a great show on Sunday night, favoring on the spirit of Palm Springs with colorful resort wear. Monday hosted a reception for the amazing charity The Girlfried Factor, whos mission is to celebrate the powerful influence women have on eachother’s lives and providing financial support in the form of educational grants. Proceeding that was the El Paseo runway show which featured various boutiques on El Paseo. Needless to say it was a full show!

Overall a great week for Palm Springs and Local Business, I am looking forward to next year!

A shout out and thank-you to Paulina Partida from Palm Springs Life for all her support and consideration!

EDUN @ Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills

Image

Edun, a contemporary clothing line co-founded by Ali Hewson and her husband (U2′s Bono) debuted for the First time on the West Coast at Neiman Marcus, Beverly Hills last Saturday. A line focused on being  ethical, helping develop African Nations “develop themselves” was a mixture of tribal printed dresses, woven cardigans, and fish scaled blouses.

What left the biggest impression was the event that Neiman Marcus put on. The event covered the top of their parking lot where they had an open air cocktail party before hand. They projected images against the side of the store, explaing the story of the brand itself. Proceeding the champagne and tray pass was the show atop the runway and further to that a pop-up shop inside the store. All in all a great night and a great event!
